Umarex brings us several versions of the G36 for us airsofters. If you are looking for a budget friendly version that will be a solid starter gun, the sportline G36 will be for you. If you want something more robust with more features and better performance, look to the proline edition of the G36 from Umarex. Both versions will have all the key features of the G36C rifle. You get a flat top picatinny rail, and a long one at that. You can mount plenty of items on the generous top rail space. A popular option is a red dot sight. Integrated are iron sights if you don't fancy yourself using optics. The handguard will also have rails and a sling mount for HK hook style slings. The handguard is retained by a pin which you would remove to access the battery compartment. The main differences will be in the gearbox and some features that come with it. The Sportline model will have your basic Safe/Semi/Full Auto functions as well as a quick change spring guide system. The gun shoots at an FPS suited for CQB so you are automatically flexible off the bat on where you can play. If you want the best feeling G36 then you will likely want to go with the proline model. This shoots harder and is suited for outdoor play, but the gun itself is still compact so it is not difficult to wield. The premium features besides the performance that you get with this version is that there is also an electric blowback function. This simulates the firing of the gun by moving the bolt back with each shot. You get an additional fire mode (2-round burst) which is controlled by an internal MOSFET The internals are more robust on this version to support the higher performance it is pushing out, and it retains the quick-change spring feature so you could quickly downgrade it for CQB play. Magazines are the same no matter what version you get with high caps and mid caps being available. You can clip them together using the molded in studs.
The G36 is a 5.56x45mm caliber military rifle designed in the 1990's by H&K as a replacement for the bigger and heavier G3 battle rifle. It was put into service by the German military in the late 1990's and has been serving ever since. It began as early as the 1970s with a search for a new rifle to replace the G3 which was a huge success but did not meet modern needs. There would be other rifles developed in between the G3 and G36 but they never came to fruition due to political changes and budget cuts. NATO was moving towards the 5.56mm round as the standard and H&K pitched some rifles that did not make the cut so they started from scratch to develop a new rifle from the ground up around this cartridge. This satisfied all the requirements of the German military and it was then adopted. Many variants exist, with the G36C being popular for close quarters engagements.
