In the gearbox you will find the cylinder and piston assembly. These are known as compression parts because these parts are what drive the air through the gearbox and into the BB to fire it. When the trigger is pulled, electricity is supplied to the motor which turns a series of gears and pulls back and compresses a spring loaded piston. The piston at the end of the cycle is released and the piston head forces the air inside the cylinder through the front of the gearbox. Bearing the brunt of the force from the piston hitting the front of the gearbox is the cylinder head. The cylinder head is also what holds the air seal nozzle in place and the shaft provides the area for the nozzle to travel as the tappet plate is moved back and forth during the various stages of feeding and firing.
In short, a cylinder head does two things: absorb the impact from the piston slamming home and also proving a seal with the cylinder to form a chamber. If the former is compromised, replace the cylinder head. If the cylinder has air leaks, upgrading to another unit will deliver better performance. We offer tech services on most popular airsoft guns to upgrade for accuracy and range, power, or for durability.

Q: How long do cylinder heads last? A: Cylinder heads usually last tens of thousands of rounds and are typically made of polycarbonate. Metal ones exist and
some guns come equipped with metal ones from the factory, and it can be said that this component would last indefinitely.
One could argue metal ones being better since they should last longer, but at the end of the day if it performs its job is
all that matters. Q: What is better? A plastic or metal cylinder head? A: Since even polycarbonate units have been known to last tens of thousands of rounds, most people can agree that the
choice between a metal or polycarbonate cylinder head makes marginal difference and both should offer an exceptionally
long service life. With that, the one you want is the one that seals best with the cylinder in your gun. Q: Should I upgrade to another cylinder head? A: If your gun is functioning, there is no need to address this part. If you are already inside the gearbox doing other work,
you could upgrade if you spot damage or to optimize your compression performance and eliminate any last potential for air
loss in your system. Q: What should a good cylinder head do? A: A good cylinder head should stand up to the stress of being struck repeatedly by a piston. A good cylinder head should
also fit very well with the cylinder so that air does not escape and drive down performance of your airsoft gun. Leaky
compression parts will drastically lower your guns potential and deliver lackluster velocity. Generally speaking, a cylinder head
is either working or not working, changing an already good working one to another one will not yield any better results.
