For an airsoft gun, there are actually two barrels. The outer barrel is the part of the airsoft gun you will see, which takes on the appearance of the real counterpart. This has no performative functions in an airsoft gun and is actually cosmetic. This outer barrel acts more as a sleeve and the true barrel, which is known as the inner barrel. When your airsoft gun is fired, the gearbox will force air into the hop up chamber where a BB will be then forced through the inner barrel.
The BBs that airsoft guns used will be referred to as 6mm though the true outer diameter is just shy of that at 5.95mm give or take. The bore of the inner barrel on a stock/unmodified AEG will usually be somewhere in the 6.05mm or greater range. With these tolerances and a forgiving barrel assembly, high quality and consistent BBs will deliver better accuracy out of the box and will not jam up unless the barrel is dirty.
Q: How do I improve the accuracy of my airsoft gun? A: If your gun does not come equipped with a tight bore barrel, you can upgrade to one and start to see some accuracy improvements.
As a byproduct of the tighter bore, you might also see a small increase in velocity as well. The tight bore barrel should be upgraded
in conjunction with a high quality hop up bucking to deliver the best accuracy. To make any of this matter, high quality BBs are a
must and using a heavier weight round will yield noticeable results. Upgrading for power certainly might seem like a huge improvement
however accuracy is going to be the most noticeable. Q: How do I improve the range of my airsoft gun? A: Range and accuracy are often mentioned in the same breath but are not always synonymous. To clear up any confusion let us explain
what each means. Range is the actual reach of your airsoft gun, and we like to measure this up to the distance where hop up no longer
has an effect and you can start to see the BB drop off dramatically. Basically range is how far your gun can shoot and have the BB
remain in level flight. Accuracy is more about the consistency an airsoft gun can hit its target or area with little deviation. Improved
range means very little without the accuracy to back it up so upgrading to improve both is where most peoples priorities should lie. Q: Will an extended barrel improve my range and accuracy? A: Extending your inner barrel to longer than stock could bring about some marginal benefits however staying within the stock length is best.
If you go too long there are diminishing returns and you could actually create other problems since your gearbox is tuned to provide air
volume for a specific barrel length. That said, this is best examined on a case by case basis. If you need help with installing an inner barrel,
we offer tech services to repair and upgrade airsoft guns.
