Some automatic electric guns (AEG) come equipped with an electronic chip built into the wiring known as a MOSFET. MOSFET stands for metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor. This is not to be confused with the in line fuse that is sometimes built into the AEG which is designed to prevent shorts from reaching other components and damaging them. In a tradtional or standard AEG, battery power is provided to the motor through the switch assembly when the trigger is pulled. The switch assembly contains contacts which touch when the trigger is pulled to complete a circuit. As your airsoft gun gets used, the constant use of these contacts will eventually wear out (burn out) the contacts due to the electrical arcing that occurs with the way the switch works.
This is greatly exacerbated by frequent semi automatic use. A MOSFET can help minimize this by sending the current directly to the motor and using the switch assembly only to signal the motor to turn rather than run an entire electrical current through a traditional switch to then supply the motor with electricity. Some advanced AEGs come equipped with MOSFETs already to help increase the longevity of the gun. There are also aftermarket upgrades that are available that can offer different levels of functionality. A basic MOSFET will protect the trigger contacts and help increase electrical efficiency. Advanced units might have programmable features and protections built into the system.
Adding a MOSFET to an airsoft gun requires advanced gearbox work. We offer tech services to upgrade and repair most popular airsoft gun platforms including installing MOSFETs.

Q: What are the benefits of a MOSFET? A: People like adding MOSFETs or buying guns equipped with MOSFETs for peace of mind. Increased trigger switch life means one less thing
to worry about over the lifespan of the gun. In addition to this, you can run higher voltage/high performance batteries with greater
peace of mind. Trigger response is also improved as a byproduct of having a more efficient electrical system. Q: Do MOSFETs go bad? A: MOSFETs could go bad if there is a short that reaches the unit such as through a pinched wire or a defective/shorted battery. This could
overload the circuit and fry the MOSFET so to speak. A bad MOSFET will be stuck in an open circuit mode and what will happen is
essentially your gun will fire continuously and on its own when battery power is supplied. It is imperative you disconnect the battery
immediately if your gun starts to "run away" to avoid danger to others and to keep the damage from reaching other components as the
gun is firing nonstop. Though your MOSFET is likely ruined, it is not too late to mitigate the damage done to other components. Q: What MOSFET should I go with? A: A simple protection MOSFET does not have to be expensive and a basic level of protection to your switch assembly, while still offering
better trigger response through electrical efficiency. Advanced units will cost more and can sometimes be programmed for specific functions.
If you do not seeing yourself using these functions it might be better to go with the simple one. Adding a MOSFET to a gearbox that does
not have one requires the same base amount of work regardless of whether you go with the cheap or expensive option.
