With airsoft pistols, there are multiple different types of magazines. For propellants, there are 2 main types: Green Gas and CO2. Green gas magazines use a green gas aersol style canister to fill the magazine with. Green gas contains a lubricant in it which keeps the seals in your magazines lubed. To prolong magazine life, it is recommended that you store it in a cool dry area, with a slight amount of gas remaining in the magazine to seat the seals and keep them under pressure. CO2 magazines use a standard 12 gram CO2 cartridge. Something important to note is that there is no lubricant in these cartridges. Because of this, you'll need to add a drop of lubricant every few CO2 cartridges to ensure that the seals stay lubricated. For storing, make sure your magazine is stored in a cool dry area, under a slight amount of pressure. You'll want to invest time to clean your magazines after each use and ensure no debris is entering the magazine well. If not cleaned, small amounts of debris can accumulate and prevent the magazine from feeding when you need it most. Due to the design of most gas airsoft guns, the magazines have a feed lip that protrudes from the top of the magazine. If dropped on a hard surface, you can easily break the feed lip. For this reason we do not recommend dropping magazines unless you have a soft surface to catch them on. Many magazines offer replacement feed lips so you can maintain the magazine and extend the life of it. Something to make sure before purchasing is that you confirm you are buying the correct magazine for the correct gun.
Q: Can I purchase a CO2 magazine for my green gas gun?
A: This depends on the pistol. There are some pistols on the market that have the ability to take green gas and CO2 magazines. CO2 produces higher pressures, and pistols that use these types of magazines have reinforced internal components capable of handling the pressures.
Q: What is better, CO2 or green gas?
A: Each has advantages. Recently CO2 has become more popular than green gas in the United States - this is due to the ability to work in colder temperatures and easier access when compared to green gas.
