About the ASG Universal Bipod with Rail Adapter:
The ASG universal bipod is similar to Harris style bipods. It has legs with springs attached for quick closing and positive opening. It stands atop two sturdy metal legs. The legs are notched to provide you with customizable height options. The legs can quickly be deployed by hand but closed rapidly with the push of a button. The feet on the bottom of each bipod leg are rubbery and add traction when laying prone or rough cover. Bipods provide you with stability when shooting by removing some of the movement you could induce by aiming from an unsupported position.
The bipod can attach one of two ways. The traditional way is by using the sling swivel stud found on many old style rifles or hunting rifles. These look like tiny metal eyelets. Sniper rifles/hunting rifles tend to come with an extra so they can mount the bipod to that rifle along with a sling swivel. If your rifle has a rail system, the included adapter gives your gun the bipod stud needed to mount the sling. The way the mount works is the bipod has to "claws" that grab onto the bipod stud. There is a big bolt at the bottom that as you turn and tighten it, the claws close in. It will grab onto the eyelet and be very secure on the gun. There is a locking swivel function that allows you to yaw the rifle in case you need to make some fine adjustments to your aim. Other than that, the legs will stay steady as you pitch and yaw the gun the way you want.
Besides sniper rifles you could use this type of bipod on an LMG/support weapon class airsoft gun or for a DMR (designated marksmen rifle). In the case of the former, when running a big heavy support weapon you can appreciate the bipod taking some of the burden off your shoulders by allowing your gun to be rested and fired from a prone position. For a DMR, this is more the type of gun you would shoot on the move. Whereas a sniper stays in a position for longer periods at a time for the optimal shot, a DMR style player should always be running and gunning and supporting his squad. The bipod would come in very handy for shooting from improvised cover and odd positions.
Do you need a bipod? That's entirely up to the user. This is not a required item to play any particular role nor does it prevent you from shooting well if you know what you are doing. All this can do is enhance your shooting.
