About the ASG CZ SP-01 Shadow Spring Pistol:
Though the CZ-75 is a great combat pistol, competition shooters who enjoy their CZs wanted something a little bit more refined for competition. Enter the CZ SP-01 Shadow, which was designed using professional input for those who shoot for a living. The real CZ SP-01 Shadow features a couple of unique things that set it apart from the classic CZ-75. First, the ergonomics are improved with a newly reshaped frame and grip area. Secondly, the sights have been upgraded for fiber optics in the front and a traditional combat rear sight. Other areas of refinement include the trigger and the frame weight and balance.
For the airsoft side of things, ASG produces three versions of the Shadow to suit any players budget. The version we will discuss here on this page is the Spring powered version. This is a beautiful replica of the SP-01 at a fraction of the price. As you know, spring powered guns require you to pull the slide back before firing each shot. While this is a slow method of operation, this does make this pistol a very affordable replica. The spring pistol version of the Shadow is constructed of durable ABS polymer and is suitable for casual target practicing or light skirmishes. The fiber optic sights are faithfully replicated and provide a nice and easy to pick up sight picture.
This version of the Shadow is also dimensionally correct and we've tested them to fit with the corresponding ASG Strike Systems Locking Holster.
Q: Does this pistol have hopup?
A: Yes, it has NON-adjustable hopup aka fixed hopup.
Q: What weight ammo do you recommend?
A: To get any accuracy out of this pistol we recommend you use .20g BBs with this fixed hopup pistol. Anything heavier will have a dramatic drop in range.
Q: Is there any maintenance that you should perform on a spring pistol?
A: Spring pistols are pretty much self contained and not user serviceable. You can shoot some silicone oil down the barrel and wipe just to keep it clean and reduce your chance of running into a jam as well as keeping your hopup bucking from drying out and cracking. Other than that there is not much for you to do. Once the gun has reached the end of its life cycle it is not feasible to repair it and replacement will be your best bet.
Q: I love the Shadow and is there a reason I should pick this one over the others?
A: This is the best for those on a low budget and just want something that looks like a Shadow. They shoot okay but not as good as the gas powered counterparts. Your next step up is the non-blowback Shadow. The premium gas blowback full metal SP-01 Shadow is where it's at though!
