Today we shall talk about a favorite that has been out for a little bit that is geared more towards the type of player that wants something high end, unique, and full of well thought out features that you just don’t get in other guns out of the box. Today’s gun is the ASG Scorpion EVO and it has had some updates since its release.
This is the ASG CZ Scorpion EVO series and these are made by ASG in Denmark. You’ve probably seen the CZ Scorpion in video games such as the various Call of Duty games and in the hands of elite police units. Stateside you can even own a real one in semi-auto configuration. These are 9mm submachineguns or pistols in real life.
Let’s talk about the airsoft version. The airsoft version is built pretty much entirely of really strong polymers. This is not to be confused with the lower grade polymer or ABS plastics you find in a cheaper gun, so don’t equate polymer with cheap. Everything about this gun feels really solid and sturdy which is what most people will be surprised with. The polymer construction does keep the weight down so this is a very easy to handle and maneuver gun. You have a couple AEG versions available here. The most prominent is the short SMG variant. The longer version is the carbine, and the BET is the one with the mock integral suppressor. Another version you could have is an HPA version which features a Wolverine Inferno engine designed especially for the EVO. More on that in a bit.
For the AEG versions of the EVO, all of them will have a front handguard you will have to remove to install the battery. The battery compartment is on the narrow side to keep everything within the same dimensions of the real thing. This limits you to an 11.1v stick Lipo that is meant for AKs. A 7.4 is not recommended as the gun requires a bit more juice to function and the MOSFET will not recognize it. Speaking of which, this gun has a built in MOSFET so you are good to go for using Lipo batteries.
The charging handle can be locked back, revealing the hopup adjustment in the breach. The barrel is threaded for the flash hider though you can get a 14mm CCW thread adapter as well. On some versions of the EVO you have a picatinny rail or an MLOK rail. The ATEK versions or ATEK furniture adds some enhancements to the ergonomics. Owners of older EVOs can pick up these attachments to update their gun cosmetically.
The stock is collapsible and also folds. The gun has a 12 o clock picatinny rail and includes some sights. The gun comes with a mid cap by default with no loader, but there are options for high caps as well.
Now for the built in features that set this apart from the others. As mentioned, this gun has a MOSFET. Also part of the electronic fire control system is the micro switch trigger which makes for a very light and short trigger pull. The gun is driven by an ASG Infinity motor which is their top of the line motor. The gun features a burst mode which is not something you get too often in an airsoft gun.
The gun features a last round cutoff which is based on the interaction of the magazine to a switch inside the gun. When the magazine is empty, the follower trips this cutoff feature which will prevent you from firing when empty. You do not have to second guess yourself with this feature. Once you are ready to rock with a new magazine, press the release and it will signal to the gun that it is once again loaded. You could also manually trip this in case you needed to dry fire your gun without a magazine.
The HPA version of this gun features a specially developed engine by Wolverine. The gun retains all the features of the AEG but you can also program the number of shots tied to the burst function as well. If you plan to go HPA on an EVO there really is no good way to convert the gun since it is a non standard gearbox, selector, and switch assembly that is inside. So if that is your ultimate goal, you will want to go straight to the Wolverine Inferno edition.
All EVOs feature a 6.03mm brass tight bore barrel which gives great accuracy out of the box. The EVO is a really nice gun but it is difficult to work on. Do not take it apart unless you are experienced because once things go flying out and get lost, not even we can help you.
The ASG EVO is going to be a cutting edge airsoft gun for years to come. Behind the scenes the factory is always bringing new ideas and tiny improvements throughout that anybody can appreciate.
