Part of every automatic electric gun (AEG) is a motor which drives the internal mechanisms inside the gearbox. When delivered electricity from the battery, the motor turns the gears which pulls back the spring loaded piston. At the end of the cycle, the piston is released and the piston forces air out of the gearbox and into the hopup chamber, pushing the BB at a high velocity. It is through this electric gearbox assembly that it allows you to fire rapidly both in semi automatic and fully automatic modes without having to pull back and cock the piston the way you would have to do manually on a basic spring powered airsoft gun.
The parts inside a high quality airsoft gun will be much more durable and last tens of thousands of rounds if taken care of and can be serviced or even upgraded as the user desires. Motors come in different types to fit various types of airsoft guns. The common form factors would be noted in the length of the shaft, such as the long shaft or short shaft motor. The long shaft motor is very common and can be found in popular AEGs such as the M4-type.

Q: How do I improve my rate of fire?
A: A simple thing you could start with to improve your rate of fire is to upgrade your battery to a higher voltage one, perhaps a Lipo (lithium polymer) battery. The next
thing you could do is upgrade the motor to a higher quality aftermarket one. Though even the best guns tout that they come with the best parts, we have found that
any gun no matter how good they come have benefitted from a motor upgrade. Beyond that, changes in gearing or using techniques to lower electrical resistance is
going to require more advanced tech work for which we do offer tech services on most popular airsoft gun models.
Q: How do I improve/increase my trigger response?
A: Trigger response is not quite the same as rate of fire though it is often confused. Trigger response is referring to the delay between the type you pull the trigger and
signal the airsoft gun to fire to the time it actually fires. By nature, there is a very slight and hardly noticeable delay between the time the trigger is pulled and the time
the motor can turn the gears and cycle the piston. Players who want a competitive edge and are seeking very fast and crisp semi automatic performance often want to
have their AEGs upgraded to have the best trigger response (shortest delay possible). For the novice players, it is hardly noticeable but for seasoned players sometimes
those extra ms (milliseconds) matter. Upgrades to the motor and battery improve your rate of fire and get you to complete a cycle quicker which will as a byproduct
reduce trigger response. This would be considered your first steps in improving your trigger response before opening up your gearbox and changing out parts to improve
trigger response.
Q: What is the difference between speed and torque motors?
A: Speed motors tend to boost rate of fire and trades off torque. A torque motor is meant to drive stiffer springs. A motor with a good balance of speed and torque will offer
noticeable improvements to any airsoft gun.
