About the ASG/KJW M9 Pistol
KJW (Kuan Ju Works) is an old name in airsoft for gas guns and they are very well regarded overseas. If you are an older player, the name probably rings a bell. Action Sport Games (ASG) is partnered with KJW as the OEM manufacturer for several incredible pistols to be brought over to the United States. The full metal M9 by ASG/KJW is no exception. This model has been out for quite a while and it has only gotten better with age. The most current generations are not only full metal but capable of using both green gas or CO2. The M9 has been a tried and true pistol and in airsoft the same holds true.
Unlike many other brands who design a model of pistol to be exclusively green gas or CO2 powered, this pistol has the option to use either propellant. The reasons for this are that this pistol was originally designed with green gas and CO2 had not yet become a viable option in airsoft. This pistol's design had evolved over time and was upgraded to withstand the higher pressures of CO2 when players started demanding it. Green gas is also very prevalent in Asia so many guns coming from overseas are designed for a different market. For this particular gun performance will be similar no matter what propellant you are using though the CO2 works better in the cold. The cons for the CO2 are that you'll get probably 2 magazines worth of shooting before you should replace the cartridge otherwise you'll be second guessing whether you have enough for the next round. Green gas pistols on the other hand you can always top off the magazine even if you fired just a few shots, so you can always reassure yourself that the gun is ready to go when needed.
This airsoft gun is based on the M9 pistol that is currently serving the US armed forces. When it was selected into service in the 1980's and became widely issued in the 1990's, there existed a love/hate relationship with the pistol because it replaced the beloved 1911. Aside for being a fairly large pistol, many critics did not like the lack of power coming from its 9mm round and many opined that the .45 should never have been replaced. Regardless of controversy, this pistol remains in service to this day where it was recently announced that a new handgun would replace it. With all that said, for gas blowback pistol lovers the M9 is a fun platform because it has a bit of old school flair and feels really stout in your hand. The balance and weight is very nice because the entire gun is made of metal whereas many modern guns use a metal slide on a polymer frame. This is definitely a fun pistol to own.
