About the Echo1 D-Type Motor Pinion Gear
The pinion gear is the gear that is mounted on the motor. When the motor turns, the pinion gear turns the bevel gear inside the gearbox which will then turn the spur and sector gears which will then pull back the piston. Since this gear makes contact with the first gear inside the gearbox, having the height (which is adjustable) of the motor dialed in is crucial. Having the motor and thus pinion gear sitting too low means not enough engagement and while it could turn the gears, the lack of contact could damage your pinion gear. Having the motor and pinion gear sitting too high means too much engagement with the bevel gear which can create binding or increase friction which in turns causes more amperage draw which taxes your electrical system and battery and can make the gears sound noisy and cause damage.
Pinion gears probably won't need to be replaced unless there is visible damage. They should last indefinitely otherwise if installed and set correctly. To install a pinion gear, you will need a motor pinion gear pulling tool. Shimming gears and adjusting motor height does require a good understanding of gearboxes so this is not something for a novice to tackle. If your gun is brand new and sounding screechy or not very clean when firing (higher gear whine than usual) then it could be a symptom of either incorrect motor height or damage to one of your gears. Your wires getting hot would also be a symptom of incorrect shimming or gear damage and it is recommended you do not keep firing your airsoft gun for risk of additional damage or shorting of your battery. This is especially true of Lipo batteries which are more sensitive to shorts in the system or extreme amounts of draw. When a gun shorts out a Lipo battery this is extremely hazardous as this can cause your Lipo battery to burst into flames.

The reality is that some parts may need fitting and some parts might look the same but the dimensions are slightly different enough to not work. This will require technical experience to identify to overcome.
