The Fox Custom Safety Lever, designed as a replacement for version 2 gearboxes, served as an essential component for fixing broken internal safeties or constructing custom gearboxes from scratch. It's important to note that different gearboxes, such as those found in MP5s, utilize distinct safety levers and gearbox shells. However, approximately 95% of the components remain standard version 2, highlighting an idiosyncrasy within the gearbox realm. As an aspiring airsoft tech, it's crucial to thoroughly research and ensure compatibility before purchasing specific parts. Another common gearbox type, version 3, is typically found in AK and G36 style guns. In V3 guns, the trigger blocking functions are performed by the trigger pieces, rendering safety levers unnecessary. The channel for the safety lever is a round hole, which may require slight filing or modification for a tighter fit on certain gearbox brands. The safety lever plays a crucial role within the gearbox by interacting with the selector plate and trigger. When the fire selector on the gun is moved, it engages with the internal selector plate, which in turn moves the safety lever. When the gun is in the safe position, a part of the lever physically blocks the trigger, preventing accidental firing. Although this part rarely breaks, it's not entirely immune to damage.
