About the different types of Airsoft 40mm Grenade Shells
This category contains shells for a 40mm airsoft grenade launcher. These shells are powered by green gas or propane, and are reusable. The velocity is determined by the shell that you use, as this is the component that actually shoots. These launchers are commonly used at milsim events for tasks such as “disabling vehicles”, or as an intimidating shotgun in casual play.

Q & A:
Q: What are the different types of ammunition for a 4mm grenade launcher?
A: There are many types of projectiles you can use in a 4mm launcher. These include shower shells, foam rockets, 40mikes, master mikes and tag rounds. We primarily carry shower shells made by Action Sport Games. The ASG shells fire at roughly 200 FPS with a .20g bb.
Q: Will these shells work in my launcher?
A: These grenade launcher shells will fit in any 40mm launcher. For the best results, use one of the launchers from our grenade launcher category page.
Q: How do shower shell grenades work?
A: These shells are fully reusable. You fill the shell completely with bb’s, then use one of the rubber stoppers to hold the bb’s in place. Hold a green gas can into the fill nozzle for 3-5 seconds (sometimes longer if need be). Keep the can upside down for the best results. Load the 4mm shell into your launcher, then turn the safety to fire. When you pull the trigger, the launcher will fire the bb’s in a shotgun spread. They will shoot about 50 feet, but can reach farther distances up to 150 feet by arcing your shot.
Q: Do I need to perform any maintenance on my 4mm shells?
A: As with any gas powered airsoft item, these shells will require care and maintenance to keep them in good shape and not leaky over time. The simplest thing you can do is put silicone oil on the valve and then charge the valve with gas to fill it. The gas will push the silicone into the shell and the pressure will distribute the oil to everywhere inside including the o-rings, which is the component you are trying to oil. Any small leaks can be addressed with the silicone oil and any big leaks can be detected this way. These shells have small ball bearings and complex parts. We suggest that you do not disassemble these shells unless you are qualified. Parts could get lost, and you will void your warranty.
Q: What kind of bb’s should I use in my 4mm shower shell?
A: We suggest using .20g bb’s to .25g bb’s for the best results. These are the most cost effective option when shooting anywhere from 50-300 rounds at a time. Check out our bb selection here!
Q: Can I use these shells at FAF?
A: These launchers are allowed at FAF, but not on the CQB field. (These rules are subject to change, check with a referee before using your launcher.) Make sure that your field allows grenade launchers before using one.
