The appeal of airsoft guns is their sense of realism or connection to something that has a real counterpart. This often leads to different categories of airsoft guns that, while within a performance standpoint seem no different, the category that some guns might get classified under is purely semantic in nature. As such, specific types of airsoft gun magazines may be found here that are either for gas or electric guns that would fall under the submachinegun (SMG) or pistol caliber carbine (PCC) of guns. These types of guns are too short to be considered to be a rifle and a substantial step up from a handgun platform. In the real world sense, the classification is based on a mix of US gun laws, conventional military and firearm wisdom, and the roles and calibers the firearm employs. Airsoft is all 6mm and will have all fire modes available typically so again, none of this applies and it is purely semantics.

Q: What is the difference between a gas rifle/smg and an AEG? A: The way the gun is powered and the function behind it are the key differences between the styles of airsoft guns. Gas guns,
particularly blowback models, will offer a high level of realism and detail behind it. They will have recoil and function identical to
their real counterparts and require you to perform the same steps to load and fire. AEGs on the other hand will take on the
appearance of the real thing but the level of realism for how the gun works is going to be lower. That said, the function and
performance of an AEG is often more consistent and offers more to a player who is intending to seriously play the sport as
function outweighs form when it comes to this type of gun. AEGs carry more ammunition, last longer, cost less to operate, and
often have product support to upgrade or keep them functional for much longer. Q: What are my magazine choices for my AEG submachinegun or PCC? A: Since every type of gun in this category is specialized and is not a common form factor as an M4 or AK for example, it should
be expected that there are just a few options to exist for every gun model. You will typically have a high cap and mid cap
magazine option. Q: What are my magazine choices for my gas submachinegun or PCC? A: Gas gun magazines act as reservoirs or gas tanks for your gun and as such, the magazine capacities will be limited to exactly
what the gas stores can hold. You will not find a high capacity versions of the magazines which is why gas rifles, submachine guns,
or PCCs are not as popular for airsoft skirmish use. A typical gas gun magazine holds 50% or less ammo than an AEG mid cap and
sometimes 10% of the ammo that an AEG high cap can hold. That does not make gas guns bad by nature, but you should know for
your use what amount of ammo will work best and purchase more magazines as needed.
