There are many options available for accessories on your airsoft guns. This includes magazines, optics, lasers, attachments, muzzle devices, grenades and cleaning. Many of the airsoft accessories available work with automatic electric guns (AEGs), airsoft pistols, and airsoft sniper rifles. With all of the options available, what do you really need? The best place to start out is with magazines. To play effectively, it is good to have at least a few spare magazines. Most active players carry between 4 and 8 spare magazines on the field for their airsoft rifle. This gives them the ability to reload and stay engaged in the action without having to go back to staging and load up more BBs. For pistols, it is ideal to carry 2 spare magazines in the event you need to transition to your secondary. Once you have your magazine loadout set, look at adding an optic to your rifle to assist with aiming. There are 2 main options with optics, red dot sights, and magnified scopes - each offer their own advantages - red dot sights give you fast target acquisition - these are the most popular for most airsoft rifles. If you're considering building a DMR or a sniper rifle, a magnified optic is the ideal choice. One your optics are setup, consider adding other accessories for low light operations such as a good weapon light and a laser. After that you can consider other attachments that make your rifle comfortable for you.
Since everyone's style is slightly different, there are individual preferences with accessories and customization. Your goal should be to build the loadout that works best for you and the environment you'll be playing in. An outdoor loadout will typically be very different from a close quarters battle (CQB) loadout. Don't be afraid to try different things and see how well they work for you and your mission.
Q: What is the first accessory I should get?
A: A good red dot sight is an excellent addition to any rifle. It gives you the ability for fast target acquisition as well as the ability to aim in low light conditions.
Q: Do you recommend getting a vertical grip?
A: This depends on your personal preference. This is one of the most common accessories that people purchase for their airsoft gun.
Q: Is a flashlight an important piece of gear for my rifle? How about for my pistol?
A: Flashlights are very helpful if you plan on encountering a lowlight condition. Remember, low light conditions exist in day time operations, if you go into a building with a dark corner, or some dense vegetation. Having the correct tool can be the difference between completing the mission or not
Q: Do you recommend getting a scope?
A: A scope can be a great accessory if you are taking long distance shots. Something else to consider is getting a scope that features an illuminated reticle - this can help with targeting in low light conditions.
Q: Do you recommend getting a gun with a rail system?
A: A rail system gives you virtually unlimited options for mounting accessories to your rifle. Mil standard picatinny rails have been around a long time and are very popular. Newer rails systems such as keymod and MLOK are now becoming more popular with more accessories appearing on the market every day.
