About the NC Star 45 Degree Off-Set Rail Mount
The NC Star 45 Degree Offset Rail allows the user to mount a picatinny rail compatible accessory on your airsoft gun at an angle. It is made from machined aluminum and is perfect for mounting backup sights, flashlights, and lasers. For those running a scope this would give you the option to mount a small reflex sight so you can make closer engagements. You can also mount your flashlight at an angle that is more in line with how you might grip your rifles forend and activate the light with the last amount of effort. For laser use, you might use this so your laser beam either clears another accessory or is closer to a particular accessory for a more streamlined feel. The weight for this item is very minuscule and would be a great upgrade for snipers or DMRs who may want to transition to closer aimed shots on a low/no power optic. You have 5 rail slots to work with (approx. 1.8" length) which gives you plenty of room to work with.
We mentioned snipers a bit because they have a unique situation that arises when running a high powered optic. Granted sniper rules typically have a minimum engagement distance (ours is 100 feet at our local field for example), even at that close if you are maxed out on zoom 10x you will have a hard time tracking your target. We're talking about being zoomed in so much that you can't scan your peripherals as quickly as a non magnified optic or low zoom. Yes, you could lower your zoom to compensate for this, but those who don't mind spending a little more have the benefit of running a red dot sight as a backup some times and we can tell you it's very accurate and quick switching optics on the fly like that.
Now let's move on to the other applications of this mount, such as positioning a light on your guns forend. Some weapon lights use a push button on the back to operate. For these types, its easier to activate with your thumb. One trick to making it easier to activate is to use one of these mounts and position them to near where you naturally hold the gun. Some people use the mount to mount the light up higher on the gun. When you hold the forend your thumb can hit and activate the light. Some people run a vertical grip and the mount in the low angled position so your thumb can activate it while grabbing onto the grip. There is no wrong way to use this as it is something you will figure out and adjust as you go along.
